        i.            Dissecting host-pathogen interactions with reference to Helicobacter pylori and pathogenic mycobacteria.

      ii.            Understanding the stress response in mycobacteria with special reference to  extracytoplasmic function sigma factors and two-component systems

    iii.            Analyzing the role of positive feedback in phenotypic heterogeneity of stress response genes in mycobacteria.

    iv.            Understanding bacterial efflux pumps and their role in drug resistance.
